02.28.10: Backup Your ChiroSuiteEHR Data – Protect Your Practice

Your patient information is critical to your practice. If you do not have multiple backups of your ChiroSuiteEHR data, your practice is at great risk and may be destroyed if your computer crashes and your data is lost.

Your support agreement with Life Systems Software REQUIRES daily backups of the ChiroSuiteEHR data. For each day of the week, there should be a separate and distinct backup. Each backup can be in a different media (USB flash drive, rewritable CD, copy to another computer, RAID array, external hard drive, on-line service, etc.), or it can be the same type of media each day. If it is the same type of media, this means that you have at least 5 different copies (5 USB flash drives, or 5 rewritable CDs, etc.) NEVER DEPEND ON A SINGLE BACKUP!!! At least once per week, a current backup should be taken to and kept in a safe location outside your office.

All users must be logged out and both ChiroOffice and ChiroPadEMR must be closed, with the Attendant Bar closed, not only from every workstation but also on the server while you are backing up the database! If the program is left open when trying to make a backup, the backup will either NOT be made or the data could be corrupted and lost.

Each backup should include a copy of the ENTIRE Data folder with ALL its files. This includes all the patient information from both ChiroOffice and ChiroPadEMR. The data directory is usually found on your server computer at C:\Program Files\Chirosoft\Data. If you use Paraphrase in ChiroPadEMR, and especially if you have customized Paraphrase, also backup the Paraphrase directory. The Paraphrase file is located at C:\Program Files\Chirosoft\Paraphrase. If you can not locate either the data or paraphrase folders on your system, then you may have a special configuration for your in office network. Should this be the case, call support at 973-625-3716 option 3 for assistance in locating these files.

10.21.09: ANJC Award to Life Systems Software

At the annual convention of the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors (ANJC) on October 18, 2009 Life Systems Software was awarded the ANJC Business Partner of the Year Award for outstanding effort and commitment to the Chiropractic profession. The award is a demonstration of the focus that Life Systems Software maintains on providing Chiropractors with the computer tools necessary to have truly successful and enjoyable practices. The award was presented by Dr. Sig Miller, executive director of ANJC to Dr. Paul Bindell, president of Life Systems Software.

10.16.09: Obama Giving Up To $64,000 Stimulus To Each Doctor

Uncle Sam wants to give you $44,000 if you provide care to MEDICARE patients, and up to $64,000 if you care for MEDICAID patients. This is President Obama's Stimulus to computerize your practice. You just have to qualify by having certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) computer software functioning in your practice by the end of 2010.

Life Systems Software intends to provide you with certified EHR software. Clients on current support contracts at the time the certified EHR software is released will receive the certified EHR software and upgrade FREE of charge. Clients not on current support contracts will be charged according to the published sale price of the certified EHR software.

On the CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) website, the following statement was published in 2008. When it refers to the "second year", it means 2010. Note that by Federal definition, Chiropractors are included as physicians.
"all participating primary care physician practices will be required to have a Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT)-certified EHR by the end of the second year. (CCHIT is the recognized certification authority for EHRs and their networks.)"

Penalties will be imposed for NOT using certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) computer software. If you are not using an EHR system by 2015, Medicare will reduce payments to you by 1% of your Medicare fees. This penalty will increase to 2% in 2016, and 3% in 2017. Treating Medicare patients means you must get on the EHR train or loose your income.

The next ChiroSuite webinar training program is scheduled for Thursday November 13, 2008. The ChiroOffice management program is from 9 AM to 1 PM Eastern time.
